Care telling us about the Haplay monsters?

Well, I was just playing King Solomon's Mines, and I came upon this quote:

"I'm pretty sure that even in the world of the story, these creatures weren't supposed to actually exist -- they existed solely in the imagination of the frightened fox. Because of that, I'm pretty sure I never had a clear mental vision of what a Kagoreel was or what it looked like (unlike the Shirons, Ventraises, Ugulars, and Ooclos, for which I had and have retained clear mental images). They were just generic monsters, albeit terribly fearsome."

Care to share what you imagine the Haplay monsters to look like, Sam? I thought it would be interesting to know, if for no real reason other than insight.
