I remember once as a child we had such a major ice storm, that the yard became like an ice rink. completely covered in ice thick enough to walk(and slide) on, made all the more entertaining by the fact that the yard had a small hill in it.
oddly enough(or perhaps not so odd since I was a child after all) that's all I can remember about it, marveling at how the yard had become paved in thick ice, and sliding down the little hill.

I experienced another interesting ice storm last year while visiting some family for Christmas. there was an ice storm just bad enough to cover most things in a sheet of ice, though not quite enough to trouble roads or bring down many branches.
It is indeed eerily beautiful despite the innate hazards it can pose.

Winter has always been one of my favorite seasons(definitely in my top 4...) for a very similar reason.
There are few sights that I find more moving then a perfect undisturbed coating of snow covering the landscape at night. able to transform even a dull suburban street into peacefully beautiful scene.
