I think the only reason you lost in #28 was because you left one character with lower HP and defense against an offense-heavy opponent and he took that one out first instead of your high-defense/high-HP fighter. (Maybe you also might've gone to +4 Elements a liiiittle early that month, heh)

A 5 and 4 off/def can definitely work, the trick is you have to be very precise in your build. A good example of this is #34; Nell put together a preliminary build without losing once and without wasting a lot of gold on temporary enhancements, and she (she?) probably would've won the whole tournament had you not called her elements essentially perfectly in the finals.

By contrast, in that same month, Arawn lost three preliminaries and in the quarterfinals, couldn't even keep up with you. Granted, I think the 4 and 3 is strongest around match 10 or 11 anyway, before you start hitting heavy medical expenses even in a solid victory. I'd say the fewer rounds we have, the more effective 4 and 3 becomes. It'll be interesting to see what happens if we drop below 64 competitors...
