Two weeks ago I was up in the classic literature stacks at our city library looking for a classic author I'd not tried yet. I came across Hemingway, and decided to finally give the man a try.

While it certainly wasn't the best book I've ever read, I enjoyed it on some level, and I'll probably read some more Hemingway somewhere down the line.

I recommend Hemingway. If you judge a writer by his level of success, he is up there with the best, but technically, sometime he came up short. For a while, his use of short, choppy sentences drove me nuts, but he was so entertaining, I got over it.

Try "To Have and Have Not." Many of his novels have been made into movies. Does that mean anything? Spencer Tracy and Humphry Bogart were real actors, and good at picking the right script.
