flat tar

I had a flat tire a couple of days ago. Around here, that's a "flat tar." I took it to the tire store and where I have been buying tires since 1962, and the looked at the dry-rot on the other tires on my truck and said I needed to worry about those, especially since I drive the truck on the interstate most of the time and sometimes pull a trailer full of scooters. So instead of ten bucks to fix a flat, it's $500 plus tax for a new set of tires. The old ones still had half of their tread depth left.

So I started wondering how much, or maybe how little, I've driven that truck lately. Printed on the oil filter with a Sharpie was the date and miles when I last changed the oil. That poor truck has only been driven 1500 miles since last May! I wonder how the battery stays charged. At that rate, I'll still be driving it when I'm 100, so I guess new tires are a good idea.

That's the trouble with a Toyota. Buy one and you are stuck with it forever. Mine is a 1995 model and has been in the shop only once in 135,000 miles. You can't wear the darned things out.
