POA - stuck near the end?

I think I'm almost done but I've gotten stuck. Kevin Johnson is in the Docking Bay with the Metal Briefcase. However, when I step out from the cargo boxes, I get killed by Keplar. I'm not sure what needs to be done first. Here's what I have NOT done yet:
1. Got the Spiffy pop can from the vending machine.
2. Given can to the boy
3. Done anything inside the HEEC (I can get in but I can't fiddle with the controls)
4. Fixed the ventilation in the kitchen (only found 2 tubes so far).
5. Can't get through the metal door in the Arboretum.
