At least twice now I have been reading the comments at AMT and have thought of something else, perhaps related to what I'm reading, perhaps not, that I'd like to post about there. And then remembered that it's a blog, not a forum, and I can't start a new topic but only post to existing ones.
Which is, I reckon, as it should be... but that doesn't stop me from saying stuff here!
So anyways, last night I watched "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". Now, I remember the first time I saw a preview for this... I think it might have been when I went to see The Two Towers in the theater, and I thought, "ooooh, cooool." Because it looked cool and nifty. And then it didn't come out in theaters when they said it was going to for whatever reason, and then I ended up not seeing it when it finally did get released, and then I sort of forgot all about it. Although I do remember laughing when Jude Law hosted SNL and they made fun of the "making of" Sky Captain, with him just sitting in a box in front of a green screen and people throwing stuff at him and telling him to imagine bizarre things happening around him.
Then a couple weeks ago I was watching another movie that I'd rented (sorry, don't remember what it was) and saw the preview again, and remembered that I'd wanted to see Sky Captain, so I finally rented it this week and watched it.
Liked it. But I think it was mostly for the novelty of it and the "old-timey" look-n-feel. I also enjoyed the success story documentary about how this guy just made this six-minute film in his living room with off-the-shelf animation software and then showed it to a friend who showed it to a friend who showed it to a friend who just happened to be a big hollywood producer.
I don't recall hearing any talk about this movie around here, other than the brief mention it got in the Summer Movies 2004 thread. Anybody else seen it? Liked it? Disliked it? What's your take?
