Back in 1932, this classic horror film, starring the legendary Boris Karloff in the title role, was terrifying. By modern standards, it's not so scary, and the film has aged in other ways as well. What The Mummy does still do is create an unnerving atmosphere where evil lurks, something the old horror flicks did so much more artfully, something the new horror films mistake for shock and repulsion.
