Twists and turns abound in this complex Philip Marlowe mystery, The Big Sleep. Humphrey Bogart plays Raymond Chandler's detective; Lauren Bacall plays the sultry daughter of an elderly man who hires Marlowe's services. This second teaming of Bogart and Bacall (which was, in fact, Bacall's second movie ever) proved their electric chemistry in To Have and Have Not wasn't just a fluke. In fact, they're even more fun to watch here, in their best film together. Gold for mystery lovers.
