Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon (1964)

Reviews and Comments

Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon is typical for the early 1960s Italian Hercules films: too talky, too stiff, but with some juicy intrigue and campy fight scenes. I loved one of the early scenes, which has Hercules throwing huge boulders on people, who are thrown from their horses from the impact. The horses themselves, however, are so tough, they don't even notice when three tons of rock drop onto them.

This is not really one of the better Hercules films, not that even the best ones are very good. The plot is unusually mundane, and there isn't the spectacle there should be. Interestingly, one moment of the film is a virtual rerun of the famous "I'm Spartacus!" scene from Spartacus, but without the pacing and emotion that made it work there.
