Sinbad of the Seven Seas
In Episode 2, we talk about Sinbad of the Seven Seas, which is the favorite bad movie of not only us but, I know, a lot of you as well. It is so rich with things to laugh at that we couldn't possibly pack them all into a segment on the podcast, so I wanted to open up a thread to continue the discussion.
For me, the real regret I have is not getting to mention Soukra, the most blatantly gratuitous character in the history of fiction, more or less. Here's an ally to Jaffar that never does anything at all: she never has any ideas, never does anything, never influences another character, never impacts the plot in any way. Basically all she does is come up with different ways to tell Jaffar he's an idiot.
Why he keeps her around to abuse him is a mystery, especially since she's not even particularly loyal to him. (That's her in a quick shot in the end, cheering for Sinbad.) Thing is, she wasn't exactly duplicitous. Jaffar asks her -- twice -- who's side she's on, and both times she replies that she's on the side that wins. Yet Jaffar seems shocked every time it crosses his mind that maybe, just maybe, Soukra isn't unswervingly loyal to him. You'd think he'd catch on.
