I never have a recurring dream like that. Mine are more along the lines of what would happen if my collection of tools and spare parts ever fell on top of me all at once. I am the Intergalactic Spare Parts Champion. I own at least one, and usually up to ten, spare parts for every single thing that exists.
On my boat, for example, I probably have enough spare parts to actually construct another entire boat. This is because the previous owners sailed it across the Pacific and when you're two weeks away from the nearest land you tend to take four of everything, just in case. It's spare part heaven. I'd like to say I have a spare of everything but the kitchen sink, but the truth is that I have one of those too. Plus a spare sink drainage hose, a spare sink pump assembly, and a spare handle for the sink pump assembly.
I dream of the day I'm anchored in some isolated bay and a guy sails in with damage to some incredibly obscure part of his boat. He will row over and ask if I have anything he can use as, say, a sail track glider. I will silently go below, come back with three shoeboxes, do a slow mad smile, and say:
"Wooden, plastic, or aluminium?"
