There were absolutely WMDs in Iraq, unless you take the position that our top government officials are blatantly lying about what they say they've found: 500 munitions contain sarin and mustard gases have been found in Iraq since 2003.
The following paragraph is an excerpt of the article I have linked to:
'"These are chemical weapons as defined under the Chemical Weapons Convention, and yes ... they do constitute weapons of mass destruction," Army Col. John Chu told the House Armed Services Committee.'
The story has been out for a few weeks but has not been front and center in the news, understandably. There may still be a lot that's still classified information as well, for all I know.
One could still argue that degradation has rendered the weapons ineffective (for current use as WMDs, though it is recognized that in any case they are still highly toxic), or that even though they existed, the WMDs (either in terms of quantity or ostensibly intended purpose) did not pose enough of a threat to warrant the Iraq invasion, but by now the evidence for existence is there. Personally (just a belief -- I am without evidence), I think that there was probably a lot more that got secreted out of the country or hidden really well while all the dithering with the UN was going on.
