Yeah, I was thinking about that on the drive home last night after posting this. It makes sense to me to say "Product A is released" if you're posting it under the heading "March 5, 1998" or something. Then I can at least understand the sentence as "On March 5, 1998, Product A is releasd". And it sort of works whether March 5, 1998 is the present or the past, although like you said, it seems to make more grammatical sense to use past tense if the day in question is in the past.
