I gave up stick and ball sports years ago. Baseball seems to be the biggest snoozer of all. But there's also golf.
In baseball they stand around a lot, spitting and scratching, and tapping the ground with bats and feet. Sometimes a guy throws a ball to some one, and on rare occasions, a guy swings a bat. If he should happen to hit the ball, another guy runs over and throws it back in the general direction from which it came. By then, the batter is probably standing on a base adjusting his cap and hitching up his pants, and giving the evil eye to some other players. Then he teases them by acting like he is going to run to another base. Spit scratch tap tap. They spend a lot of time just looking to see what everybody else is doing. Finally after playing for four or five hours, the game is over and the score is 2-1. Half of the players are happy about that.
In golf, they hit a ball and look. Then they walk.
Don't get me started on football.
Basketball and soccor have some action and teamwork, but that's about all.
Whatever the sport, you have to study it to really enjoy it. If you don't know the rules and what the contestants are trying to do, you might as well stay home. That's why some people don't like stock car racing. I hear them say that it's just a bunch of taxis driving around in a circle. If you don't understand it, that's just what it appears to be, but it is about as technical and complicated as any sport in the world. It's hard to beat for excitement. There is a lot of smoke and noise, and yes, wrecks. It appears to be dangerous, but it's safer than football.
And did you know that stock car technology has helped the US Olympic bobsleding team become competitive? Howard
