I actually did toy with the idea of having skill sets in the RPG I'm writing now, but in actually cranking through the game mechanics, it turned out to be kind of redundant in conjunction with the other character attributes I wanted to have. A lot of RPGs that lean heavier on skills than stats work out pretty well, though, and are often popular with players. > > Anyway, you've obviously thought this through. So why not try to write this yourself? If you've got the passion and the patience -- at you seem to have the former at the very least -- you'll figure out a way.
I'm also toying with the idea of having the player level up through a Skill Sheet, a feature that allows you to check your current:
Level (LVL)
Amount of Skill Points (SP)
Health (HP)
Amount of Magic Points (MP)
Amount of XP
A S(kill) Sh(eet) looks like this:
LVL XX
XX/XX SP (currnet/max)
XXXX/XXXX HP (currnet/max)
XXXX/XXXX MP (current/max)
XXXX/XXXX XP (current/required)
Of course, I kept the WC (Weapon Class) and the AC (Armor Class), but changed it to ATK (ATtacK) and DEF (DEFence). The game sounds like much, I know, but I think that, with the right tools, I can make it. Hey Sam, could you give me some pointers on making a text game?
