Ok by looking at your inventory you are missing a key item. Remember birds of a feather stick together so find a bird of "your feather" in the second town she sells something you need.
Oh and the chasm you speak of, it is not a dead end nor the room after. That sage is helpful aint he, and that stone may be able to help.
Oh and finally when you come to a gate in your mind it's best to fight it with a mental weapon. Those coins of silver you used to have, well not all shops want silver.
