1) FORGET THE TORCH. You won't get the means until way, way, way down the road.
2) Hey, while you're dropping yourself down the well, why not vandalize it totally? Everyone's way too lethargic to miss the rope or the bucket.
3) Go back to the island. The dragon's guarding something you need.
