If we ever get a reader poll question about our favorite RinkWorks post, I'm going to vote for yours. After I read it, I printed out all seven pages for future referrence.
After all, you covered my two favorite subjects, Hawaii and curising. The funny part is, we were almost on the same ship. We have been looking for a Hawaiian cruise for some time now and that was one we looked at. Unfortunately, we had to settle for the Eastern Caribbean again.
I think you saw enough of Hawaii the know how different the islands are. It's a matter of age. The Big Island is the youngest and Kauai is the oldest of the major islands. That's why Hawaii has small beaches of coarse sand and Kauai has those broad beaches of soft golden sand. Do you remember which beach you went to on Kauai? My favorite is Poipu Beach. Not just my favorite Hawaiian, beach; my all-time favorite.
After reading your account, I can't wait to get to Fanning Island.
Next time you are on Oahu, take the circle island tour on The Bus. It takes you by those famous North Shore surfing beaches and you get a look at the real Hawaii side of an otherwise overdeveloped island. It's a cheap tour at $1.50, but it lasts about 4 hours. If you get off to shop or eat, it will cost you another buck fifty to get back on, but who cares?
I'm sorry you had to go back to school so soon, but those are the breaks. You probably learned more in those two weeks than you will in the next two weeks of classes.
So you liked those Big Island ranches? I guess they are different from California ranches in a lot of ways.
Can't wait to see the pictures. I have been away from my computer a lot and I am a few days behind on RinkWorks posts. You may have already posted a link. Howard
