No. The instructions may not be as detailed as you'd like, but they're 100% accurate. Nowhere is there the suggestion that the two red wires should go together.

Follow the instructions as accurately as you can. In a couple cases, the instructions don't narrow down your choices enough, so when that happens, try each combination of wires that fits the instructions. There aren't that many combinations that follow the instructions to the letter.
