It cost my daughter $110 just to get her remote door locks reprogramed. That's the cost of progress.

I drive a '75 Chevy for work, and an '89 Plymouth for other driving. Both cars have good old push-down locks, and window cranks. AND--both cars have actual metal bumpers, NOT a stip of something that may or may not be metal and is an integral part of the car body. That's one of my pet peeves and one reason that new cars often cost more to repair. These new "bumpers" don't protect the car anymore--they're part of the car.
Another benefit of hand cranks, etc. is that they're sometimes easier to fix. Everything is going to break if it's used long and hard enough. When computers break, it often creates more of a mess than when mechanical parts break. At least most new cars still have actual keys to use as backup when the remote locks fail.
Here's another pet peeve--oil changes. Car manufacturers have started recommending 7,500 miles between oil changes for "normal" driving. BUT--they define "normal driving" in such a way that very few people can consistently meet it. Most people do what the manufacturers call "severe" driving, and that recommendation is still 3,000 miles. I guess we should be thankful that they still recognize average driving habits.
