Anguished on the Trail, and I've hardly even started

After reading this board, I consider myself to be luckier than some Trail of Anguish newbies: I've got past the initial getting-into-the-library thing, and now it's "sometime Saturday morning or early afternoon". But I'm convinced I've been everywhere (twice), talked to everyone (twice), and I just can't find what to do next.
I'm carrying:
One Rock
Map of Elkland
Backpack
Stylish Shoes
Enrollment Sheet
Dragon Costume (well, I thought it might come in handy for something.)
Naluz is on his day off. The 'phone won't work, I've got nothing to trade, can't get into Halcyon, and the college staff are just plain unhelpful. I'm not even sure what I'm wearing these shoes for, as I still can't seem to play football.
