You forget this wasn't a Detective Story (where Bats reigns suprem) but a war story, and Captian America is the greatest Warrior America ever produced. In the Marvel Universe he pracitaclly won WWII on his own.

Not to mention Cap's sheild in bigger than Bat's batterangs.;-}

Also, it would be down right unpatriotic if Captain America lost. So ofcourse you would back Batman, after all Captain America is a living symbol of Democracy and Freedom, word that are completly alien in dictators.
