Getting the gold and the something to protect your hands kind of goes hand in hand. Ask around to find out *who* might have the gold. Then look around for that person and think about what you know about that person. You have everything you need to get the gold. Then, after you get it, find that person again and talk to him and he'll tell you about something he left behind.
Rust remover = reward for finishing a quest. (Computer games, anyone?)
