HOLY COW FERRICK!
Without looking at that post, I did exactly the same thing. INGENIOUS! So, the moment you've all been waiting for. Here's how it turned out, everyone:
I took an empty root beer plastic bottle (which I emptied myself ^_^) and, with MUCH hot-glueing, put foam fins around the bottom so it would stay upright during the fall. I linked the foam fins together with foam sticks (wow this is hard to explain) so it would absorb impact as it tipped on its side and provide extra wind resistance. I filled the bottle with a foam disc, then bits of foam, then another foam disc, and so on to provide shock absorption and padding for the egg which rode near the bottom of the bottle completely encased in foam. I put a chunk of modeling clay at the tip to ensure a straight fall, and that was about it. So anyway, after it all, the egg SURVIVED, so I was really happy about that! My teacher wanted to keep it because it was really unique and the only thing that didn't suck. Of course, one guy filled an empty bottle of Gatorade with tissues and paper towels at literally THE last minute, and it worked, so I wished great suffering on him. ;-) The really hard part was that the battle for egg survival continued from the ground back to the classroom or it didn't count and I'd get 20 points deducted... Anyway, it all worked! Thank you all so much for your help, I took them all into consideration before I began. Most of your designs probably would have worked but not have met my requirements for mass, sadly. Thanks again!
