You can get the maps of the maze, but not until you've done a key thing inside the maze first, so you have to venture in there at *least* once before the maps become available.

The best way to "get" a map is to make one yourself. It's not hard -- just plot a point on a piece of paper to represent where you are, then draw a point for each new location that you happen upon, drawing the interconnecting paths as the text describes them.
