I respectfully disagree. She stated, "I've already decided that I cannot remain true to my own beliefs and write to him" - which means that her stance is based on a personal conviction. This isn't an issue of pride, or emotions (which will be whatever they will be, regardless)... but of something much deeper. For that reason, I think that if she does write to him, she may experience a deeper form of regret... not only because it would make her confusion last longer, but also because she would be going against one of her convictions.
I think she's making the right choice. It isn't an easy choice (either way)... but I think that it's the right one under the circumstances.
