I have a few collection of Golden Age reprints and yes, they were rather poorly executed, predictable, and those from WWII are probly offensive to Germans and Japanes, when veiwed by todays standards. And Ancient Rome smelled bad. Modern comics are built on the basses of those early works, they evolved over time. Think of Golden Age books as Homo Habilis to the Homo Sapiens Sapiens of modern comics. So maybe they wern't great liturature, but Watchmen, Secret Wars, and Kingdom Come wouldn't exist if not for those early works.
