Wait, what exactly are you trying to do? If you tied the rope where I think you did, you're on the right track. The trick is to cause a commotion, get out before they catch you, and book it to the banquet hall before they finish cleaning up your mess. You can't climb in the window while someone's in there, obviously, so you do want to look before you sneak in. If someone's in there, WAIT until the coast is clear.

Keep trying. It's not impossible.
