I probably know him. I know a lot of retired teachers.
There is nothing wrong with having fun and saving gas at the same time.
That crooked road you mentioned is known as "The Dragon," and it is a killer. I've driven it in a Toyota, but would never think of riding a Cushman over it.
Some of the legends about it include a rusting, wrecked motorcycle hanging in a tree, and stories of demolished day-old Harleys. But you can believe the newspaper articles about rich guys getting killed up there. Some of them ride for days to reach The Dragon and it gets them five minutes after they arrive.

The road that goes through the Smoky Mt. Natl Forest between Cherokee NC & Gatlinburg TN (and on to Pigeon Forge) is a biker's dream, 126 curves in eleven senic miles--or so I hear from my father-in-law, who bought himself a new motorcycle last year at age 73. > > I may have mentioned him before--I think he's possibly your twin, separated at birth. Like you he is a retired schoolteacher who grew up in the Knoxville area and also spent time in Florida. > He also always has plenty of stories to tell :-) > > koala"no scooters though"mom
