I'm the same way, a little bit. When I lived with my parents, and they went away for the night, I would get freaked out so badly that I'd sneak around the house with the lights off, clutching a baseball bat.

For the first few weeks of marriage, on nights when my husband was out late at school working on a project, the same thing happened, but you can only keep it up for so long. I didn't think I'd ever get over my paranoia, but your brain starts to just give up after a while. It realizes that constant fear is exhausting, and eventually it lets you sit in your living room, window wide open a lights on, without batting an eyelash.

I still have my moments, but for the most part, I save my fear for when there really is a suspicious noise in the apartment, not just imagined ones or ones that are exaggerated by my jumpy self.

Best of luck!

Vida
