We just returned from that scooter meet in Hiawassee, Georgia. The weather was great up there in the mountains and we saw a lot of old friends that we only see at scooter meets.

Just before we left, I bought a Honda Passport, which is a 23-year-old, 70 cc scooter. I usually don't want a scooter that new, but I've always liked the Passport.

Then as we were heading out the door, a lady called about a Cushman Silver Eagle in her basement. I had to put her off until after the meet, but we hurried home on Saturday and unhitched the trailer. Then we went to see her Silver Eagle. But it wasn't a Silver Eagle. It was a Cushman step-thru that was at least 30 years older than a Silver Eagle. I think it is 59 years old and in good condition. Naturally there are a few minor parts missing, and a few dents and a little rust, but it is far better than most barn fresh* Cushmans of that vintage.
I hate the ugly red and black two-tone paint job, so it may someday be blue. As near as I can figure, it has been stored for 38 years.

The big problem is that I'm not sure what model it is. It has pencil springs like an early 50-series and a tubular body like a 60-series. The tires and fenders are enormous, considering that scooters usually have small tires. The year is probably 1946, but it could be a model 54, 53A, or who know what. (50-series Cushmans were made from 1944 until 1948.) Stay tuned. I'll post a link to some pictures as soon as I figure out my new camera.

* "Barn Fresh" is a term that refers to a scooter that has been found stored for a long time. They are often, but not always, in a barn. This one was in a basement, but the term still applies.
