Then try 6. Or 8.

Actually, the few times I tried it, it seemed to vary slightly how many moves I made. Just remember that any moves back to the boarding house also count.

If I remember correctly, I think going to the blacksmith's, going in his shop, leaving and returning to the house gave me enough time. You really have to rely on trial-and-error, though...
