Suburban Legends With a few rural legends thrown in for free.
House fires are usually started by mice chewing on matches. All snakes are copperheads, except for the black ones which are cotton mouths. All brown spiders are brown recluses, and all black spiders are black widows. Rain water is better for your plants than well water. Bats are blind and that's why they only come out at night. If fish hear a splash near the bank, they will run away from it, but they will run toward a splash in the middle of the river. Fish and milk make poison, therefore if you drink milk while eating fish you will die. Only fair-skinned people have freckles. Mosquitoes like some people better than others because of their perfume. Tuck your pants legs into your socks and button your sleeves so chiggers won't bite you. Most mosquitoes breed in water caught in knot holes in trees. If you are taller than a bear, it won't attack you. When camping, place briars around your tent to keep snakes out. Lightning won't strike you if you are moving. Lightning won't strike you if you sit down and remain perfectly still. Some cars don't use any oil at all. Buy gas early in the day and you will get more for your money. If you read it on the internet, it must be true. Howard
