On the other hand, it might make a very interesting novel to bring elves, dwarves, and other fantasy elements into the *modern* day.

What kind of car would a wood-elf drive?

Would the evil wizard be the head of some sort of multinational corporation bent on world domination?

What would a twenty-first century halfling dwelling look like?

Would dwarves overtake the elves as the world's foremost ship builders given their preeminance in metalworking?

Where would men fit into a modern world that still had fantasy elements like those mentioned above?
