On the west end of the main highway out of Calgary, headed towards the scenic Rocky Mountains, there is a gas station that has a good scheme going. I was out in the mountains for a day trip one day, and I noticed on the way out of town in the morning that this gas station (the last chance for gas for about an hour of driving) had what I figured was the highest price in the city. At the end of the day, coming back in, they had what I assumed to be the lowest price in the city.
Makes sense, really. Gouge people who are heading out by charging a lot for last-chance fuel; give them a sweet deal on the way back in to encourage them NOT to drive three more minutes looking for a better price. I'll bet they made a killing on that mid-day price-change scheme.
