Yes, it's big, but we live in the country. It's a one-street subdivision surrounded by farms. The people who built this house in 1965 put it across the middle of two lots. That gave them 200 feet of road front and 200 feet deep. But it was all covered with mature hardwoods. We bought it six years later and found that it was too shady for a garden, so when the lot next door came available, we bought it. It had more trees, but there was a 50 foot strip down the far side that was sunny. Our garden is about 50 X 150.

People from cities think a place this size is big, but land was cheap around here in the early 70's and still is cheaper than most places. Three of our four kids have more space. One is a real farm with 135 acres, another has ten and another nine. The kid with the least space has 3/4 of an acre in an Atlanta suburb. I think growing up on a 50X60 lot in town may be behind their quest for land.

Did I say "kids?" These kids are all in their 40's!
