people get an inward sense of foreboding when they learn that a
discount deal is to be used, or are most people good about
tipping on the full amount?

When I waited tables, I found that people who used Gift
Certificates generally tipped on the full amount, and sometimes
a little bit more, the philosophy of which, goes something like
this:

Well, the total is 20 dollars, but I get ten dollars off, so I'm pnly
paying ten dollars. 15% of 20 is 3, but I'll go ahead and give him
five, since I'm not paying as much as I thought.

At least, that's the way I figure it.

Having worked as a server, and knowing what a thankless job it
is, I've dropped ten dollars on a 12 dollar meal before, so my
personal opinion is a little skewed.

The abvoe mentioned thought process is, I think pretty accurate.
I usually got a little more than 15% when I received a gift
certificate. Also, birthdays, if you do them perfectly can rake in
teh dough, cause everyone's there for a good time, and will
reward you appropriately.
