It may come as a shock to some people, but I have a motorcycle. I don't ride it much, in fact it mostly just sits there in the shop among the antique motor scooters. It gathers a lot of dust and the gas in it goes bad so that it is hard to start.
It was made in Italy by a company named Benelli, which is also known for making shot guns. Back in 1966, my motorcycle was built by Benelli and shipped to America to be sold by Montgomery Ward. It was re-badged as a "Ward's Riverside."
The reason I have it is that Wards sold a scooter, made in Japan, that was also called a Wards Riverside. So when a guy in Sparta, Tennessee called and told me he had a Wards Riverside, I beat a path to his door. After I recovered from my disappointment, I realized that a 1966 motorcycle with only 3 miles on it had to be worth something, even with pitted chrome and a little rust. I bought it cheap.
Well, the other day I got it out, cleaned up the fuel system (for the third time in about 8 years) and it started. So I rode it up and down the street a few times. Not as much fun as a scooter, but faster.
Someday, I'll trade it off for a Cushman or a Vespa. How"or a Doodlebug, or a Salsbury"ard
