Two points:
(1) You don't have to teleport out. Just run away. Running away means you lose your monster companions, but it doesn't matter, because there's a portal right there where you can summon new ones. Then you don't have to trek through the whole level to get back.
(2) Using the Dreamer's Stone and Blanket of Silence were good ideas, but other objects may be much more effective.
