It's kind of a culture shock to go from Ohio, where DP is a novelty, to Texas, where all the restaurants have Dr. Pepper in their fountains. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > No kidding! I've had such a hard time finding restaurants that serve it outside of Texas. Though I can still find it in a local store...usually. The only exception was when I visited Newport, Rhode Island last summer. I couldn't find Dr. Pepper anywhere in that town. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Kel"wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too?"ly > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I think Conroe (or Lufkin?) is the only place where you can get *real* Dr Pepper -- made with pure cane sugar. It's not a substitute for Dr Pepper, but it does taste pretty good. If I remember right, almond flavoring is what gives Dr Pepper it's unique taste. > > > > > > > > > > Kel"sipping one as I type this"ly > > > > > > > > > > > > I mean, of course, that I'm sipping a Dr Pepper, not an Amaretto and Coke. > > > > > > > > Kel"that's what happy hours are for"ly > > > > > > I have much happiness for happy hours myself. I will try an Amaretto and Coke. My ex-husband used to try to tell me it was raspberry that gave DP its flavor...that a Cherry Coke was similar. What a rube! > > > > Actually, the ingredient your looking for in DP is prune juice. That's the thing that makes it unique. This is also the reason for the original ad. campaign. They advertised for it to be taken at 10, 2, and 4 each day (10:00am, 2:00pm and 4:00pm) to stay regular. Like most early soft drinks it began as a medical aide/remedy and did not originally contain carbonation. By the same token Coke-Cola (or Coke) actually contained an amount of Cocaine in it's original receipe. Again, there was no carbonation in the original formula. > > > > Drac "Just a mountian of useless knowledge" imas > > > > BTW I prefer Wal-Mart's Dr. Thunder in the absence of true DP. > > Prune juice, really? I didn't know that. > > As for the ad campaign of 10-2-4, I do know the origins of that. The CEO of Dr Pepper in the late 1930's saw a scientific study that said the human body's energy levels were at their lowest at 10:30, 2:30, and 4:30. The ad campaign was designed not to promote being regular, but to encourage people to have a DP at 10, 2, and 4 in order to keep their energy levels up. > > You can find out more useless trivia about DP at the site below. > > Kel"9:15 am, and I'm on my second DP"ly
OK...maybe I've had too much caffeine this morning. Forgot to include the link. Here it is.
