That big bunny rabbit, omnivore that he is, is actually BIGGER than that cat. If you feed him a snack, he will be inclined to help you.
If you've already fed him a treat and he doesn't do anything, no sweat - he will only come and help you when you are face to face with the feline. Just buy him a little time to get there.
Incidentally, you have the gold key to a certain seaworthy craft. Make sure you have gone everywhere possible from the general store crossroads; it's right on the riverbank.
