outlaws..after old lady, before barn, what now?

Well, I'm at my 9,845,293th boring standstill in this game. I don't know how anyone can play this without a nudge every few minutes. but that aside my inventory is...

Altar Cloth
Key
Beer

Matches
Hat Pin
Playing Cards
Cabbage

I did the dinner, threw a shoe, fixed it, got the ring, gave it to the bar girl, went upstairs talked to the old woman who told me nothing, got dirty with some soot and washed it off. if i need to talk to the old woman more, i need to know which option is gonna get me there cause it tried them all many times. or maybe i need something else first. ive seen no barn fight yet. just let me know what im supposed to do next.
