If you do make that trip and you can get a ways up north (I'm unfortunately unsure of driving times), I highly recommend Olympic National Park, if you've never been. It's absolutely beautiful scenery, and you can make a pleasant day trip of just driving around that area. (It's also home to the best roadside sign I've ever seen: "WARNING: No warning signs, next ___ miles.")

We loved the Olympic Peninsula. We took two days to drive around it, and then went to Mt. Rainier the next day. We drove to Seattle planning to fly home the next day, but when we got up the next morning, there were pictures of the World Trade Center burning on the TV. Naturally, the airport was closed and we had to drive our rental car all the way back to Tennessee. I guess you could say we will never forget that trip.
