I took the body off my 1953 Allstate and disassembled the entire fuel system. I took out everything from the gas tank to the float chamber of the carburetor. I cleaned out everything and replaced the settling bowl. I also added an in-line fuel filter. And put the whole thing back together. Then I reinstalled the body and aired up the tires.
That's when a strange thing happened. It started! It ran! I rode it up and down the street. I think the trouble was a deteriorated gasket in the settling bowl. Pieces of it were everywhere including the float valve of the carburetor.
I'm going to take that scooter to the Cushman meet in Louisiana next week. The truck can haul two scooters, but an empty space in the truck can be a good thing.
It's OK to take an Allstate to a Cushman meet. Cushman made scooters for Sears in those days and this thing is pure Cushman under its beautiful skin. How"master mechanic"ard
