They definitely used bow and arrows but not a lot. Also, one of the main ways they wanted to catch them was to have them break their parole by leaving Hazzard county, usually by way of Chickasaw county.

The Duke boys seemed to be the only ones who knew Boss Hogg's secret plans so they needed to be in jail. Since they weren't moonshining anymore, parole violations were the next easiest thing.
