I just took the GMAT last month, which is a lot like the GRE, or so I'm told. I took a Kaplan course, which raised my score 60 points from my first practice test (GMAT has a total of 800 points). With Kaplan, you can retake the classes for free if you wanted a higher score. I plan on enrolling again during the summer.
I know that I could have probably gotten those extra 60 points on my own, but having someone teach you the little tricks to get through the math problems quicker was certainly a good help. My math portion of the test was a lot better after my teacher gave my class pointers.
Essentially, taking the class is up to you. If you want to get into a top ten school, it might not be a bad idea, since those schools cost a lot of money anyway, and what's another $1000? ;-)
