MV: Level 9 (spoilers)

(Hey, that's the name of an interactive fiction company.)
I've now progressed from level 10 to level 9 in Murkon's Vengeance. By the time you get down to 5 kills or so, most parties tend to be easy prey. I can kill parties with 3 people or less practically straight away. Leen's party was one tough cookie, however.

I don't understand much about level 9. There is a locked door, but where do I find the key? There is a maze of some sort, is the key supposed to be in there?
Speaking of parties, the last parties of level 10 were a doddle. The first party of level 9 killed me. Is this really how much more difficult they get?
