The liquid that comes from squished grapes was not "invented", but it wasn't until 1869 that grape juice could be stored (and sold in stores) without fermenting. Before that, you had to make fresh-squeezed if you wanted a glass.

A certain Dr. Welch pasteurized the grape juice to make a non-alcoholic sacramental wine for communion.
