I had a similar problem, but my solution was just to stay on the very left bit of the lane, right next to the line, which always caused oncoming cars to move all the way to the right of their lane :-)

The biggest problem I can think of off the top of my head was that you can't actually *go* when the light turns green; you have to wait until the cars ahead of you move out of the way. I never hit anybody or anything, but it was pretty tricky for a while.
